FORUMLOK (BAKERLOK) THREAD-LOCKING COMPOUND
Forumlok (Bakerlok) is a high-strength thread-locking compound designed as an alternative to welding for securing casing joints on lower string sections. Its primary function is to prevent joint loosening during cement drill-out operations. Welding casing shoes, couplings, or collars can reduce casing strength and should be avoided; Forumlok (Bakerlok) eliminates this risk.
Lubricity Performance
Lubricity testing was conducted using Forumlok (Bakerlok) on one side of a standard coupling, with API-modified thread compound applied to the opposite side. Identical pin threads were made up into the coupling. Results showed that, at equal torque values, the joint treated with Forumlok (Bakerlok) achieved greater makeup depth and generated less heat than the joint using conventional thread compound.
Features & Advantages
High Breakout Torque Resistance
Tests performed at bottom-hole temperatures ranging from 50°F to 400°F demonstrated that Bakerlok achieved higher breakout torque than casing joints welded at three locations with 2-inch weld beads.
Vibration Resistance
At 400°F, Bakerlok-secured joints were exposed to continuous vibration using a 6-lb air hammer. Breakout torque was progressively increased until joint failure occurred at six times the original 3,000 ft-lb makeup torque.
Pressure-Tight Sealing
Casing joints assembled with Forumlok (Bakerlok) at standard makeup torque were pressure-tested with water to levels exceeding the casing’s rated burst pressure, with no evidence of leakage.
Field-Friendly Mixing
The compound maintains a stable and uniform consistency, allowing effective mixing across a wide range of field temperatures from 9°F to 115°F.
Extended Pot Life
Carefully selected chemical components provide a working time exceeding one hour, even when ambient temperatures exceed 100°F.
Corrosion Resistance
Five steel samples coated with Forumlok (Bakerlok) were subjected to a 96-hour ASTM salt spray test. No visible degradation of the compound was observed, and no increase in steel corrosion was detected.
